We would like to give out some very special thank you's to Sue Dilley, Carol Six, and Zach Miller for all of their help getting the word out about Cookies for the Cure! We couldn't have come this far without you guys. We are almost done with the second week and we are looking forward to a great third! This week we asked Ben and Emily to ask their friends if they wanted to buy any that we could bring up to Ames next weekend for Mom's Day at Alpha Gamma Delta. Keeping our fingers crossed that these nice college students can find a couple of dollars to buy some cookies!
We will keep you in the know!

Baking Day!
Hey! Mary Kate here!
Yesterday I spent all day at my church's youth retreat! My friend Zach and I gave a talk to a group of teens about our mothers going through breast cancer. People were very supportive of us and I would say that it went very well! We passed out the cookies with pink M&Ms and they were well received! While I was at church, mom baked the chocolate chip, M&M, and double peanut butter cookies. Sound like a lot? I know! I told her the night before that I would do the double peanut butter with her on Sunday but I came home to find that she had not listened! So today all that we had left were the snickerdoodles and one lonely chocolate chip dozen. It was pretty smooth sailing (much easier when you have two sets of hands to roll and coat with cinnamon sugar!) Then I went about setting up the dining room table for the pick-up station. We figured that we should deck it out in our favorite color, PINK! I put a picture below. Since the Miller family had a bunch of orders that they so kindly offered to deliver, we brought them over to their house in of course, Longaberger baskets, during half time of the Packers-Bears game. Since we had quite a few extra cookies of each kind, I decided to give each of this week's customers a number and randomly select one person to receive a "Lucky Dozen" filled with a variety of cookies! Congrats to this week's winner: Natalie Martin! Stay tuned for more updates!

Cookie Dough Days
Mary Kate here!
We have had so much success this week with getting orders with the help of our friends! We drew the line at 33 dozen cookies and one extra order of bars to be delivered to the Chili Cookoff at school this Friday. Oh, and on top of all of that, 110 cookies for our church retreat talk this weekend! Phew. Dizzy yet? So far it has been pretty smooth sailing, but I know that Baking Day this Sunday will be a test for me and our oven! Mom has led me through the M&M, Snickerdoodle, and Double Peanut Butter doughs. There was only one mishap where I may or may not have added a little too much sugar, but Mom assured me repeatedly that it tasted fine and all would be well. I added a picture of the dough in the refrigerator(ignore the beer please, it is not part of our campaign)!! Wish us luck this week and thanks for tuning in!

Hello!
Janene and Mary Kate here! Here's a quick introduction of us and Cookies for the Cure.
I'm Janene. Last June I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. I am happy to report that I am doing just fine. After my diagnosis, I felt that it was important to help others who might be facing this disease. The Susan G. Komen Foundation does a tremendous job in supporting research and providing mammograms locally for women who might not be able to afford them. I feel so blessed that my illness was caught in such an early stage.
And I am Mary Kate, her daughter. We had never had breast cancer in the family until my mom was diagnosed. It was suprising and very scary. My mom is so very important to me and I feel extremely blessed to still have her here with me. Just like Mom, I feel that we can find a cure for breast cancer and in the meantime provide mammograms to catch the cancer early and stop it!
We decided to participate in the 2011 Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure. For those of you who are unfamiliar, it is a 3 Day event in which participants walk 20 miles each day, sleep in tents, meet new people, and raise LOTS of money for breast cancer research. The idea came to Janene late this summer and Mary Kate decided it was too good an opportunity to pass up. It will be a nice bonding experience for both of us before MK goes away to college just a couple days afterwards. We started our training walks early in October, increasing in miles and speed as the winter drags on. We do a lot of walks at the mall, so if you see us, just know that we are really serious.
We are now taking on a whole new battle: fundraising. In order to even walk in the event, each person must raise $2300 (That's $4600 together! YIKES!) Truthfully, the only thing we have worth sharing with others is baked goods. Not to toot our own horns, but, we make a mean batch-o-cookies, or so people say! So, we have put on our aprons, fired up the oven, and sent out order forms for our favorite flavors, selling them by the dozen for $3-4. Please don't remind us how many dozen it will take. After 2 days we are up to $93!! Wow! After the cookie phase is over, we will do even more baking for our Pink Parties. Stay tuned for more details on those. For now, just wish us luck and check for change under your couch cushions to buy a dozen "Cookies for the Cure!"
